Virtual Video Interview . . . Are You Ready for This?

By Paul Megan

Coming to a computer near you soon . . . the virtual video interview!

The recently marketed software allows organizations to eliminate the need for an initial interview and the staff time required to conduct it. Heres how the virtual video interview works.

An applicant is guided through an automated, video-taped interview while sitting before a Web camera atop a computer monitor. The candidate answers pre-recorded questions asked by a company representative or an actor. Its done in a virtual video interview format that includes head nods, leg crossing and other simulated listening movements.

In essence, the job candidate talks to the monitor while the upper part of his/her body is being video-taped. After the interview, the Web-based video of the applicants responses is edited and available for review by the potential employer.

For example, a virtual video interview is made by sales associate candidates before they are granted an in-person interview. Sales applicants leaving one companys human resources office reported they were required to read a scripted sales pitch on camera and answer questions.

From the job seekers perspective the technology is still too new to get a reading on the effectiveness of the virtual video interview. The results have not yet been thoroughly tracked.

The technology has strong backing from career guidance experts. One career specialist at a large university commented that with the virtual video interview an employer can hear a student articulate and really present themselves in a way that enhances the resume.

In this case the university career center handles the interview and can attach a disc to their resumes. From the employers perspective, it is lawful for companies to request a video interview if the candidate is capable of using the technology or the company provides assistance to create the video.

From the candidates perspective, one job seeker recently commented that he hopes companies will in fact judge him on his video appearance. 'If they dont want me,' he concluded, 'I just dont want to have to waste my time getting dressed up for interview. This video interview allows you to really put yourself out there. And thats all you can ask for when youre trying to get a job.'

Are you ready for this? Well, the good news is theres an exciting alternative job search program that can get you up to speed within hours. And have you entertaining job offers in two weeks or less. You gotta check this out!
